Monday 7th July saw Stage 3 of the 2014 Tour de France departing from Cambridge. The local festival ‘The Big Weekend’ at Parker’s Piece had been extended to host the crowds as they cheered the cyclists off from the starting point. The riders cycled through the city past some of it’s popular attractions like the Round Church and along Kings Parade before the race finally started on Trumpington Road. We packed a packed lunch and cycled (down the closed roads – great fun!) to Trumpington to watch the racers in action. The atmosphere was wonderful, and once they had raced by, we cycled back to Parker’s Piece to watch Germany’s Marcel Kittel win the stage on the big screen.
